Latest SG-1 novel review: Sunrise

Mar 16, 2011 00:11

This doesn't really contain any spoilers about the actual plot, but I'm putting it behind a cut just in case.

This novel takes place shortly after the events of "Beneath the Surface," and although the author(s) attempted to have echoes of that mission affecting SG-1 throughout the story, I think the efforts fell flat.
The storyline was semi-interesting, but I felt as though it was mostly a story about these original characters, and Jack, Sam, Teal'c, and Daniel just happened to be in it. It didn't feel like an "SG-1" story. This surprised me, especially when I found out that the author, J. Frances Crane, is actually a penname used by authors Sally Malcolm and Laura Harper. I was surprised mostly because Malcolm has written SG-1 novels A Matter of Honor and The Cost of Honor, which I really enjoyed reading.
So, all in all I guess I'd say I'm kinda disappointed in this one. Not as disappointed as I was with Valhalla, but disappointed all the same.
