Stargate Novels

Yesterday I received the latest SG-1 novel, Hydra by Holly Scott and Jaimie Duncan, in the the mail. Having just finished reading it, I'm actually pretty disappointed.

The following opinion of the story contains spoilers...

First of all, I felt the story was more focused on the duplicate teams, rather than the real SG-1. That left me feeling a little cheated. I was SO looking forward to this story, because it finally came after being three months past the date it was supposed to have been released!
For being a story based around season 5, I really felt the team interaction was quite lacking. The authors had a decent enough grasp on Daniel's and Jack's characters, but Teal'c and Sam seemed so unnatural and forced at best. There was barely any team camaraderie going on, and I was surprised at the lack of humor or lightheartedness I normally associate with the team.
Another thing I've come to expect from the Fandemonium novels, is the unspoken feelings between O'Neill and Carter at least staying within the boundaries set in canon. This story had nothing of the sort. There was absolutely NO MENTION of them thinking or feeling ANYTHING about one another, not even concern. It was as though they were complete strangers and nothing of the past four years existed! What disturbed me most of all were the hints of something going on between Teal'c and Carter. It was between two robot versions of them, but still. It just didn't feel right. I cringed the very few times it was hinted at. x_0;
Besides the fact that there were multiple duplicates of SG-1 running around the universe as the NID's pets, the story line wasn't very interesting to me. I found it pretty damn confusing. Maybe that was just me, but the whole 'time, space - space, time' descriptions and things were just way too out there and hard to follow without any visual. I followed it well enough, I suppose, in the long run, but wasn't too entertained by it.
Unfortunately, for me, this was the absolute WORST of the Stargate novels. *sigh*
