Do No Harm

Last night I finished reading Stargate: SG-1 Do No Harm by Karen Miller. It was pretty good. Not great, not one of my favorites out of the SG-1 novels, but pretty good.

After reading the extract of the book on the author's website prior to reading the novel, I thought Janet was going to be a little more involved. Don't get me wrong, she played a big part in the story, but mostly not until the last quarter of the book.
What I really enjoyed was the dip into Jack's past with Frank Cromwell (from season two's "Matter of Time") and a tie in with a character that doesn't show up until season seven in the show, Colonel Dave Dixon.
Dixon is added to SG-1 for the story, for reasons I won't go into right now and hafta do with the plot, and plays quite an important role for the team's survival.
I was a bit disappointed that toward the second half of the book, Sam's role in the story is diminished, although it's because of reasons that also have to do with the plot.
At some points while reading I thought that Jack was exceptionally gruff, and it made it seem like Daniel and Sam were afraid to approach him, which I didn't think was very in-character. But then I considered the way he was acting had to do with everything with him and Cromwell being stirred up, and it sorta made sense.
So, overall, story and characterizations were pretty good, not great.
