The Kitchen at 33 Apocalypse Ave, Tuesday Morning

"I need Alenko on this mission."

"His therapist hasn't cleared him yet--"

"His therapist hasn't cleared him because none of you want her to clear him. I'm not interested in hearing it. I'm not forfeiting a talented Special Operative because of politics. I gave him his two trial runs and his performance was better than expected. We had a deal."

"... Fine. Alenko is yours."

"Good. Hackett out."

Kaidan was awake and sitting in the kitchen with a cup of coffee at an hour that was... well, he'd rather have slept in until noon, let's keep it at that. Cup of coffee, beef sandwich, and a slow perusal of the emails in his inbox.

'Appearance Request'. He sighed and opened it. ...has requested your likeness rights for the upcoming film Citadel. The Alliance has approved...

He groaned. A movie. Of course they were making a movie. Because all the recruitment ads weren't bad enough.

He deleted the email.

The next one was from Hackett's aide. It was both the last and the most interesting email in the bunch. He opened it and scanned the lines, his mood brightening cautiously as he processed it. He was getting part of his time reassigned to special forces-- to Admiral Hackett's command. At most fifty percent of his time, depending on the needs of the Navy.

"Damn," he whispered. "Now that's a New Years' gift."

He might actually be able to go out and do some good again. That was... that was really something.

Did mean he had to grab a portal tonight, though. He was needed.

[[ open, sure. ]]
