33 Apocalypse Ave, Sunday Morning

Kaidan's therapy session had been moved to Tuesday for obvious reasons-- in fact, they were the same reasons why he wasn't upstairs in his room going through other people's reports (because frankly, he didn't have a damned lot to report from here), but rather sitting downstairs.

He'd put on a feed straight from Vancouver on a holo-screen in front of the television. He wasn't paying it much attention right now, though: in fact, his attention was entirely on the screen on his omni-tool.

"It just doesn't feel right doing this without Ash and Shepard, dad," Kaidan sighed. "I don't know. There's apparently some big thing on the Citadel, too, to honour the veterans of the battle against Saren, but..."

"I know," his dad said. "That kind of pomp-- it's not the way to do it."

That wasn't exactly Kaidan's problem, but he'd take it. "Yeah," he said. "Look-- I just wanted to let you know... I wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for you."

"I'd think so, too." Dad looked faintly amused.

"I mean here, in the Alliance," Kaidan said, rubbing at the back of his neck. "I'm grateful for everything you've done. It's important work."

"I'm grateful for what you're doing right now," his father replied.

Now it was Kaidan's turn to quirk a slight smirk. "Sitting on my ass watching the ceremonies in Vancouver with a drink in my hand? Yeah, I'm really helping out."

"You've already done more than your share twice over," Mom said-- she had to be sitting right next to him. "You'll be back at it. And even what you're doing right now, it means something."

Kaidan wasn't so sure about that.

"I'm sending you a sweater," she added. "Winter's coming and I don't need either of my two veterans to freeze solid."

Kaidan barked a laugh.
