Warren's dorm room was the most happening place in Sunnydale, it appeared.
Besides. Tara's roommate, who spent most of her time in her Very Serious boyfriend's room doing Very Serious making out, had apparently decided she needed to even things out by having the boyfriend over tonight. It had started out as movie night, but watching turned into cuddling turned into kissing turned into things Tara really didn't need to be in the room for, so she took herself for a walk to the guys' side of the dorms and tapped on Warren's door.
"I'll be okay once I get some air," Warren decided, putting on a smile that was a little too forced as he slipped out the door. Maybe, maybe some coffee would help him to focus. And if that didn't, Tara's company was always welcome all the same.
"Okay," Tara said, still sounding uncertain. She was fidgeting with her scarf as she stepped forward.
"Jane has Brandon over again?" she explained. "So it was either -- come find you or watch the TV in the lounge. And I'm pretty sure they're doing a Spongebob marathon again."
"It almost, almost makes me wonder why there weren't Spongebob marathons back in high school," Warren sighed, sounding... almost wistful. Because any thought at all that had nothing to do with Asher was a mercy.
Any thought.
"But then I remember how many people on the island probably would have just blown up the television, if they'd come across something like that, and I realize that it was all for the best."
"I know, I think we were smarter back in high school than these people are in college," Tara agreed, hesitantly but with a little smile. "But, um. They're mostly super-nice."
"That must be it," Warren decided, leading the way down the hall. "Because Sunnydale and Fandom are two completely different creatures. Really, we just haven't adapted yet."
That had to be it!
"How long do you think it'll be before Fandom takes pity on us and sends some pudding rainclouds our way?"
Tara chewed on her lower lip before she answered. "Do you think they'd cancel classes if it rained pudding?" she asked hopefully. "Because I think I kind of forgot how much work real school was."
She had to study and write actual papers. It was weird.
"I'm pretty sure classes would get cancelled and the town would be invaded by representatives of the National Weather Bureau, if such a thing even exists," Warren mused. "But yeah, a break from the papers and the studying? I wouldn't mind that."
At all. Really. Warren was a big fan of having moments edgewise to breathe.
... This did not mean that he was going to run off to some wild party with his roomie, though.
"And it's just the second week of classes," Tara fretted. "It's going to get worse."
She was a ball of sunshine today.
"Maybe the National Weather Bureau guys would hang out with the ROTC guys," she speculated. "'Cause there's a weird number of those, have you noticed?"
"Kind of, yeah," Warren replied, pursing his lips a little. "I mean, not that I have much basis for comparison, but there does seem to be more than a few of them running around here, doesn't there?"
"It's not bad here," Warren agreed with a nod. "It's... compared to Fandom, compared to home and Kaeleer, this place is normal. I'm not entirely certain I know what to do with normal, you know?"
"I'm going to try not to think about that until spring," Warren decided, blinking. "If classes are anything then like they are now, odds are I'll be too busy writing ten-page papers on job interviewer etiquette to even notice."

"Late night caffeine run?" she called. "Please?"

And it would get him out of his room, and they could escape his roommate, and it would be a wonderful thing.
Warren was developing twitches, Tara. Twitches.

She stole a glance back into the room, tried to hide the face she wanted to make when she realized Asher was in there.

Except Asher, of course.
"Maybe we're just still adjusting?"

Welcome to Sunnydale, kids.

She smiled apologetically as she looked at him. "It's not bad here." Just different. Very, very different.

Yes, Tara. Warren was calling Sunnydale normal.
