So I'll be all kinds of quick. #1 someone needs to help me think of excuses to my prof's for why I missed the first two weeks of their classes. #2 I saw the arcade fire tonight... for free.
It turns out I entered myself in a contest thinger and I won tickets to see them from a local radio station. To make things even better, when I got on the train to head into NYC (that's where the show was) I found out that students get to ride free this week! So to make the evening completely free I walked from Penn Station to Central Park, picked up my tickets and went to the summerstage and found somewhere to sit.
And sit I did.
I sat through one of the bands that opened for The Arcade Fire, I think they were called "sound team", and they were alright. They hailed from Austin Texas, I used to live near there! Anyway, after they finished the arcade fire came on, and they played a totally awesome set. It was like an hour and a half, and I've never really listened to them that much but I really really loved them. There's so much energy and they're so nuts, and there were violins and a stand-up bass and an accordion and all sorts of things. So I had a really great time as it was... but it managed to get better!
So after they finished up their set they went offstage, and there were the usual "encore" cat-calls from the audience, and by that time I had become a die-hard fan so I was screaming as well. And so they come back onstage for their encore. And the frontman goes "this is a david bowie song" and I was thinking to myself "that's cool, a david bowie cover." and then I notice that everyone around me is getting terribly excited. So I stand up on my toes to get a better look... and I see david fucking bowie. So to end my night I got to watch a 30 minute encore with david FUCKING bowie... for free.
I'd honestly never thought that I'd have the opportunity to see david *fucking* bowie live in my lifetime. and even though I'm not a huge fan of his or anything, he's kind of a legend in his own right, and he was really good live, so I'm pretty psyched that it happened.
The only downside to my night is that I didn't wear any socks, so I have very very sore feet. I walked like, a sum total of 90 city blocks, and I was standing for most of the rest of the time. So ouch. But yeah, completely free evening... david FuCkInG bowie... arcade fire. <3
