Holly: I've taken up knitting.
Paul: So I see. Probably look, uh... very nice, once it's finished.
Holly: Actually I'm a little nervous about it. Jose brought up the blueprints for a new ranch house he's building, and I have a strange feeling that maybe the blueprints and my knitting instructions got switched. I mean, it isn't impossible that I'm knitting a ranch house!
(from Breakfast at Tiffany's)
So this sweater was partly inspired by Holly's ranch house... something, and partly by my favourite sweater. It's kind of a slumpy slouchy blue day hiding under sweater, and I had it since I was about 12 so it's kind of a bit worn now. It's a loose turtleneck, very basic pattern, nothing too fancy or exotic. I wanted another one, similar to the first one but kind of not falling apart at the seams.
The pattern is loosely based on
this but with heavy modifications. The yarn is Stylecraft Special aran in Spruce and Walnut, two strands held together on 9mm needles. It was very quick to make and could be made in a week.
What I like about it: the sleeves stay back when you push them up, I can snuggle inside the turtleneck when I'm reading, it's an inconspicuous colour for blending into the background, and it's perfect for snuggling up when it's freezing outside. Like now.
Perfect for when you get the Mean Reds.
