I suppose my general air of depression deserves a follow-up, especially since today turned things around. The internet, it seems, is bad at conveying information requiring tone and nuance, and so my request for less expensive rental options was thought to be me bowing out of living with my friends. So today we met, I made some bread, they shared some hard cider, and I do in fact have an inexpensive place to live with friends here in Madison. Great success!
Today I also met a woman who is a PA, has been for about 20 years and owns her own horse (a Percheron/Thoroughbred cross named Mac). Oh, PA is short for Physician's Assistant. It's one of those options I'm pondering, as I once again came to the conclusion that full MDs don't have much of a life (an assertion backed up by everyone I know in medicine. So I'm gearing myself towards nursing or PA. This awesome woman, after about ten minutes of chatting, asserted that I'd be a fine PA, and offered to help me look into things. So I have her email and she has mine and I gained a dot of contacts today.
In general, I think the world is a nasty, unkind place. We have to fight to make our parcel of it a kinder place, and it's always nice to meet someone else willing to help you by doing so.
Oh and the iPad2 launched today and it was a madhouse. Fun madhouse, but tiring. No, I don't think I'll get one.
