[Wolfwood was happy to see the ugly scratch on his forehead was gone, and most of the flexibility of his good shoulder had returned to him. Not quite, no. They always have a list of who they're taking, and it's always by force. You don't have any room for opting out.

Oh, trust me, everyone and their mother have shouted until they turned blue about it, but they haven't changed their ways. Something about the people sent being 'compatible', though even lately they've been dragging people in who aren't.

Don't think making a scene will change it, though.

Or it could be both. They don't particularly care what happens with us, as long as things have a good end for their battles. Otherwise... well, they'd be beaten to hell by the Third Party.

Not good for us, either, I guess, but it doesn't make the way the malnosso treats the village any more tolerable, most of the time.
