[Fine, he tells himself-he might as well check out the journal; while he's normally on top of things (you never know what crazy shit's gonna go down), he's been pretty laid back, he'll admit. It's been calm, despite the last event. He's managed to just relax and take it as a small vacation, or some sort of half-assed blessing. Yeah, he'll go with ( Read more... )

Well, what I mean is that there is people who practice kendo and all. But no one goes around saying "I'm a samurai" or with real swords anymore they use those wooden or bamboo swords.

Kendo? [Kid, he has no clue on the ways of anything Japanese. Sad fact.] Why would you wanna use sticks against people? Sounds like a death sentence.

[That makes him laugh. Riiight, sometimes he forgets about those things.]

Well, kendo is like a sport nowadays in my world. They don't fight seriously or to death, both opponents use the same style of words... And anyway they can still hurt a lot, they aren't mere sticks for someone who knows how to use them.

Kendo is a style of martial arts based in the sword-fighting techniques used by samurais. It's a rather modern term but basically every samurai knows kendo, even if they don't call it that way.

[At least as far as he knows.]

Aaah, I see. I'm definitely not used to a technique that doesn't kill people, in a world like mine... [That's why Vash was so freakin' weird to everyone, you know.]

Is killing people that usual in your world?

[That... Sounds pretty bad.]

Aaaah, well... My world's not exactly the best one to be at. Nothing but desert and gunfights and drinking until you pass out over the railing. I can't even count the number of barfights I've seen.

[Not that he's participated in them HE'S TOO MATURE FOR THAT. :|]

Sounds like a worldwide version of the wild west in my world. I suppose that in that world, each day can be considered a blessing... Specially if you live around bars.

Considering how many there are? Definitely.

Are there many bars? So your world has issues with alcohol too? Alcohol and fights, that's not a good combination, you know.

You definitely understand things pretty well; drunks aren't exactly the most uncommon thing, on my planet. [He was kinda raised by one for a few tears. It didn't end well.]

Well, there aren't many combinations possible to guess from what you have said so far. Like now, the fact that drunks aren't uncommon and how rough things sound makes me think that life is really hard back there.

Maybe there aren't many natural resources, like water or food in general, though with little water the part about the food kind of follows like a domino. Or it could be a place with a very strict social system with different levels of hierarchy even outside work and where those who are born in the right social level get everything they could wish for while those who are born in the lowest level would have easier existences as rats.

Well. Actually, you could say it's a little bit of both. Being full of poor people and generally lacking resources around Gunsmoke is a good way to hit the bottle.

Oh, definitely. Winter was crazy and I'm damn glad summer's about to start up; as much as I have a bone to pick with most of my planet, I do miss the lack of winter it had. Fortunately, Spring's been kind to me.
