[Aaaall right, so it's been pretty eventful lately. With Amelia and Milly popping up, like most people, out of nowhere, Wolfwood's busied himself with being shell-shocked at the latter and humored at the former (it really is all true, Amelia, promise). With Knives and Legato still MIA (perhaps they'd left entirely? but he's not one to hope on that ( Read more... )

That would depend on what era of time you wish to know about...

Hn... are you a historian, or just someone who lives for a long, long time?

[Because he is quite curious.]

[Oh, how simple and small-minded these humans were. No concept of thinking of something beyond a box.]

It is best put as I have lived many lives and witnessed many of the turning points of my world.

And what kind of world does that resemble, throughout time?

[And now this is where they get a glimpse of how Nosgoth once was and what it has become...]

It was once a land of beauty, verdant and filled with life. Then when the Guardian of the Pillar of Balance, Ariel, was slain, it fell upon Kain to be ordained from birth to become a scion of Balance and sacrifice his life to restore the Pillars to their former glory. However, he chose to move against Fate. Kain refused the sacrifice, and so the Pillars fell and crumbled away, later become the seat of power for Kain's empire. It was during this time that I served him in my second life, my soul brought out of the land of the dead and reborn as a vampire. I served loyally for Kain alongside my brethren, each of us lieutenants to the man who had become godlike in power.

Despite the fall of the Pillars, there was still life lingering in Nosgoth, humans and animals were common and knew their place beneath the vampires. It was only when I dared evolve and possess wings before Kain that the world seemed to spiral out of control...

[Place beneath vampires, huh? Uuuuhuh, he's not agreeing with that.

But he asks on, anyway.]

And how did it spiral out of control from there? Jealousy toward you?

Jealousy...perhaps. The entirety of his motives are still unknown to me, but what I am sure of is what he committed next. He tore the bones from my wings, leaving them but horrid, tattered rags from my back. And then he ordered my brethren to cast me into the Lake of the Dead, an execution for vampires for water burns us like acid.

For time unknown, I was left to suffer in the Lake, burning pain as skin, flesh, and organs were seared away. I awoke to find myself in the lair of the Elder God, but that is a tale for much later.

When I arrived on the surface once more, there was nothing but decay and barren wastes. The skies were clouded and polluted, humans had become hunters of witches and vampires, no better than the mange-ridden animals that roamed in twisted packs. The Pillars were a long-abandoned memory, simply a monument of dust for spirits to haunt. As for my brothers, they twisted their territories to match their centuries of evolution.

[Hoooly shit.]

It's a wonder you're still around, considering what they did. So, are you looking for some revenge against this guy and his group?

My questing has left me with all but one of my brothers slain by my hand. Each one I found in their own domain, and challenged them there. With their defeat, I gained deep knowledge and evolved, adapted to possess a lesser form of their unique traits.

As for Kain...for all he has done, even ordering the extermination of my entire clan...he still seems to be the most honest man in a room completely populated with liars. Moebius, the Guardian of the Pillar of Time, has manipulated and draped veil after veil before me, teasing me with the thought of slaying Kain and achieving my vengeance, only to reveal the trickery and deceit at the hinge-points of my journey. He seems to be far too involved and enveloped in completing the turns of his hidden machinations to be trusted or believed more than the thinnest of grains.

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you, minor victories aside.

Kain has become almost secondary compared to my want to cut away the puppet strings being toyed with by the Elder God and Moebius. Kain's trickery since my hunt began have become overshadowed by the vulgar manipulations and deceits that so-called Guardian and his deity have engineered. If I have come to embrace anything since my fall, it is suffer not the puppeteer to live.

So you're planning to take down Elder Gods, huh?

God, singular. One penultimate slithering eldritch creature of tendrils and arrogance. Ancient as he might be, there must surely be a way to slay him. If Guardians of the Pillars can be murdered and the Pillars can crumble, so must even gods be able to die. Nobody lives forever.

Careful, amigo. That last line can easily refer to you, too, if you're not too cautious.

Oh, how too horribly I know this. Every waking moment, I realize how close I have been to seeing that end...

[I had nearly been forced to fulfill my destiny, trapped in the physical Reaver Blade as its soul-hungering spirit. If not for Kain's intervention during that turning point, when the coin toss had finally landed upon its edge...]

But you haven't seen it yet. So you're still in the runnings.
