Spring is in full swing with rain and sunshine, house parties and wind-scoured glaciers. Things only get better here in Portland. The hopeless romantic in me has come out again and I've found myself infatuated and involved with someone here. I started volunteering with Depave and building this neighborhood fruit forest where a parking lot once was. Warmth is in the air and the sun sets late in the day already. Summer will soon be here and everyone in the Northwest will be in the swing of socializing and growing food. I'm firmly planted here in this city for the summer, though I need to find employment to hold me over. This is home and that's come at quite a surprise to me.
Summer will end and school will start up again. The work load will be heavy and the academics grueling. To keep me sane and focused, I'm going to start training as if I actually am an athlete. Lifting, running, biking, and controlling my diet. To make the spirit strong with the body, there will be liberal doses of meditation and usage of saunas. My reading list will consist of Mishima, Messner, and Musashi. Fall will turn to winter and I'll leave for a month of climbing somewhere in North America. After than, who knows. More school, more focus, maybe more peace with the world, maybe even some satisfaction.
