what i think

i think nietzsche adopts stendahl's aesthetic philosophy of beauty promising happiness. i think that nietzsche misinterprets schopenhauer's philosophy that a "disinterestedness" is what happens when art/beauty meets the audience. also that it is a nihilism. i think that schopenhauer misinterprets kant by assuming that disinterestedness stands alone because for kant it is hardly alone to know the thing in itself. so what does schopenhauer think? that beauty saves him from the wheel of ixion. a promise of happiness of sorts. sorts. sort.

throw in that beauty promises unhappiness (can't have it: keats grecian urn) and you want to lean towards disinterestedness/detachment. but disinerestedness has a lot of misinterpretations, or interpretations, as it may be.
