madness and methodness

in san francisco, california there is an intersection at church and duboce. bicycles travel north on church and take a left on duboce. it is rare that they come from or go to any other direction. this particular left turn happens 7 days a week, twenty-one hours a day. and if that wasn't strange enough, people on these bicycles are dressed in clothes that make them who they are. full jewelry and suits are worn, equal to shorts, jeans and clown apparel. shoes include creepers and boots, and even high heels, along with shoes that are fit for bicycles.

the amount of bicycles here makes me feels sad for one guy in the universe who can hardly breathe unless in the presence of moving bicycles, and he lives in the hills where there are none. when he sees them, he feels great and full of breath and life. but in the meantime, he walks and searches for a place where he can let go and be free, a place like church and duboce.

there is a perfectly sane reason why bicycles make left turns at this intersection. or reasons. or even seasons. no hills here. perhaps "critical mass" headquarters is near. perhaps this is the best bike transport in the city(even though the N train, the J train, 22 bus, and taxis intersect here).

or maybe something really abstract or strange like an energy. like the gravitational pull is such that here is where two types of taxi drivers pass. there is the pot dealer taxi driver that will take you where you want to go for free so long as you buy some pot. and there is the driver that will not pick up the old lady because she takes too long to get into and out of the cab, and doesn't tip well. if these two types of taxis pass through this intersection, then surely by some sort of logic, this intersection would need a balance of bicycles making left turns by people in non-casual/usual dress.
