Re: Service Complaint
S70 digital camera
Serial # 8923108293
I purchased the above mentioned camera at the Houma Best Buy on December 24, 2004. The camera was a Christmas gift to my son who lives in another town. At his first attempt to download pictures, the following problems became evident:
Problems: When downloading pictures from the camera to the computer was attempted, the camera shut off and did not turn back on. The batteries were checked and are good. When turned on, the camera will extend the lens, but does not completely power on and turns off immediately.
By the time he was able to return the camera to me, and I was able to get it to Best Buy (February 15, 2005), the service department at the Houma Best Buy (store #943) said that the camera was no longer covered under their warranty, but that they could repair it under the manufactory’s warranty. The camera was sent out on service order number 00943-794414902. I received a call on 3/17/05 saying that the camera was fixed. On 3/19/05, I went to pick up the camera, but before taking it home, I put the battery in and tried to turn on the camera. It still did not power on. When I asked what they had fixed, they claimed to have replaced the main flex circuit and CPU, barrel or barrels and associated parts. They sent it off a second time for repair (service order # 00943-797666625). I did not hear from Best Buy again. On April 28th or 29th , I went to the store to check on the camera. I was told that they had an estimate and were supposed to have called me for an approval. I was told that it would cost over $300 to repair the camera. When I asked why I was responsible for the repair, since the camera had never worked since purchase, and what was wrong with the camera, no one could tell me. After 2 hours and 15 minutes of trying to check on the repairs, they discovered that instead of an estimate they had the camera which had been returned to the store un-repaired.
I spent nearly two weeks talking to Best Buy’s corporate service department trying to resolve this issue. I first talked to Chavfauna Sanders at extension 60445 who promised to call back after checking into the matter. During the course of the next week I left two messages at her voice mail. I have yet to receive a return call from anyone at Best Buy. On May 6th, I talked to Geraldine who gave me a case number of 17698893 and told me to return the camera to the Houma store. I returned to the Best Buy store on May 6th and talked to Chris Gomez. After a long discussion, he suggested I contact Canon. I have spoken with Canon’s service department who informed me that because the camera has been serviced by the Best Buy’s repair service center, the manufacture’s warranty is probably void.
This was the only Christmas present my son asked for. It is now May, and he hasn’t had a functioning camera yet. I am far beyond unhappy with Best Buy. I have expectations that I expect Best Buy to meet on this issue immediately or I will pursue both negative publicity actions, as well as, legal actions:
First, I expect to hear from someone at Best Buy within the next three days with an explanation (?) for the service I have received from you.
Second, I expect Best Buy to reimburse me for any expense incurred in fixing or replacing my camera.
If I do not hear from Best Buy shortly,
I will begin posting this letter on every forum, message board, and web page that I can log on to, including www.bestbuysux.org, www.consumeraffairs.com, www.my3cents.com, www.bestbuycard.net, www.consumer-revenge.com.
I will then send it to my email contact list and request that they forward to everyone on their list and requests that this action continue.
I will then write letters to the Louisiana Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau.
If I have to pay for any charges in the repair of this camera, and you do not reimburse me, I will pursue the matter in small claims court.
Sincerely,
Paul E Seemann and Robbie C Seemann
