The day was warm and bright on her face as she laid on the sweet grasses. Her long curly hair lay around her, blending with the large and fragrant purple flowers growing there.
The girl, her long pointed and curled ears stared up at the clouds as they passed. The clouds were a light orange; The sky was happy today. At the faintest hint of sound, a kind of...."...teeessshhhaaaaaaa" calling. Sitting up, the purple flowers clinging and staying in her hair, the girl raced to her feet, brushing stray bits of grass and dirt from her flowing green dress. It looked as if ivy were woven into a fine fabric. The dress was straight, from shoulders to ankles, and the top looked as though many lovely light purple flowers had been sewn into a darker purple fabric. It moved and shone as she ran, her purple slippered feet seeming to barely touch the ground as she moved. That was how she liked it, leave no traces, keep the grasses growing. It hurt her to see them broken, but sometimes she merely wasn't paying attention. Her mother said she was a very curious little wonder.
She often left on her own like this. Her home far from the reaches of any other, and within her small community there was no crime, no hate, no injustice. Everyone knew everyone else, and they all looked after eachother. Tahsha often came here to think, or to play. But today she came to watch the clouds, listen to the sounds of nature. Today, she was practicing. She'd gone to watch the clouds, and to sculpt them. Today she was supposed to be practicing air, so she concentrated, hands held up to the sky, sending a puff of air here, and a burst there, shaping the lovely orange clouds into things like butterflies, deer, and flowers.
Running home now clear of the clearing, her slippered feet hit bark and bits of twigs, crunching lightly as she ran. A curly purple haired streak dashing between the trees. Suddenly she burst upon the village circle, for all the houses were arranged together. Panting happily, her heart beating frantic beneath her chest, she brushed her hair out of her lovely green eyes. Like all the girls of her village, her eyes were slitted like a cat's, and they held two colors rather than just one bright shinning one. HER eyes were deep green the color of the thickest leaves, with a center of yellow, as yellow as clean liquid pollen.
Within her community everyone had their own tallents, and Tahsha held the power of the elements. It was unsual for a person to have more than two tallents, and most only had one. So she was treated with great respect by many, if not all of her family. It wasn't all because of her powers, however, for the girl was both sweet and kind, often going out of her way to help people when she saw the need. Though she had her tallents, she wasn't very good with all of them, often failing when it came to using air, or earth. She excelled at the use of fire and ice, and was marginaly good with her handle on water. The warden was pleased with her progress; a child so young and she had such a great variance as far as use was concerned. Today she was supposed to go and study with him, trying to improve on her air and earth tallents.
Moving into the doorway of their little home, Tahsha tried sneaking past the kitchen door, but to no avail. "Tahsha, lovey, you're supposed to be at the minister's house, practicing your lessons." her mother called in her mind, not turning from the task she was concentrating on. Her mother, Hetta as everyone called her (Tahsha wasn't sure what her full name was, but assumed it was just as well. She liked the name Hetta) was cutting up vegetables for dinner. Her mother was tallented in arts of the mind. Mostly light reading and whispering. "You should get dressed, and hurry on over there, lovey. You'll be very late if you don't." She looked over her shoulder as she said the last, smiling down at the girl. "I've made you a snack to share with your friend at break time."
Tahsha beamed at her mother, bubbling with excitement. "Gren will be there?" She asked in her happiest tone, holding her hands up in fists by her chest, elbows tucked against her body in a display of eagerness. Greh was the only person in the world she trusted to hold her secrets. He held the tallent of growth, often able to cause plants to grow in an accelerated rate, without distortion. Though he had trouble with things like flowers and trees, he was best with vines and climbing plants. Things with wippy little stems. Gren was the one to usually bring the snack, and she was tickled to be able to share.
Running up to her room she changed from her flower dress, into the long white spidersilk robe her mother had made her when she began her studies at the minister's house; It had the same striaght shape as the flower dress, but with no sleeves, and a single vine border going over the oval neckline. Rushing to put her silver slippers on, grabbing her bag as the dashed down the stairs, she nearly bumped into her mother who was standing at the base of the steps. "Now now lovey, no need to rush so; Here, take this with you." She handed her a small carved wooden box, the sweet fragrance of the flower cakes inside seeping out at the edges. "Oh, thank you mother!" She did a kind of jump step, indicating she wanted a kiss. Her mother bent down smiling gently, and kissed her on the lips, and with that quick peck, the girl was off.
Running again through the woods, her feet suddenly went out from under her, and she found herself falling through the air, into a dark and dusty house, the floor boards creaking under her sudden weight. Suddenly, they gave way, and broke beneath her, and she found herself falling for the second time in but a few seconds. She hit hard floor, and all was darkness.
