I watched M*A*S*H yesterday. It was on the telly, which made me put on the DVDs because omgwtflaughtrack. the laughtrack is INSANE.
"My best friend just died!"
"LOLZ!"
I found that I was going "omg, Radar! don't befriend people! they will just DIE, you creepy little black-widow!" Also that everyone that leaves gets replaced with someone less incompetent, suggesting that they fairly quickly realised that even in a comedy about war you still have some plausibility issues.
Also maybe Trapper left because he had been MPregged by Hawkeye. And then there is BJ and it is sad because a) Hawkeye will never love him as much as he loved Trapper and b) BJ would feel guilty at cheating on his wife.
And you know how you never needed to know that Colonel Potter was impotent between WW1 and its sequel? Yeah, that. But omg he r teh LUFF his wife and he salutes her picture every morning and and and omg. And Radar brought him a horse yay! And that time the jeep was crushed and he shot it in the head! He is a different kind of smashing than Henry was, but he is still fab. And they really did need a competent non-evil proper-military character other than Margaret. (See above re: plausibility issues.)
Someone one time in LJ said Hotlips had slept her way to the top to which I was like "Omgwtf?" She just... has an irresistible attraction to men in uniforms that have more bits on them than hers do. And to men who are just within her definition of pretty. And to men who... well, men who are men, really. I think Margaret nursed her way through the ranks, and got sex en route as a sort of a bonus. And her Daddy Issues are disturbing but hilarious. OMG Sgwun totally plagiarised Hotlips! Oh noes! And also she and Frank gave birth to Jack. EXPLAINFYED! Stargate: The Right-Wing Sequel To M*A*S*H.
Also it is very difficult These Days not to yell "fuck you, bitches, Margaret outranks you! DIE IN A DITCH!" when people are mean to her. I steal from Miriam when I say "omg, stop repeatedly hitting her head off that glass ceiling!" Also ZOMG I loved it that time Potter was all "evacuate teh nurses!" and she was like "omgwtf we live in a fucking WAR ZONE ANYWAY!" Because, y'know, how come it's okay for men to die but if women die that's the line that must never be crossed?
"Don't think of me as a woman!"
"Then don't stand in profile!"
Oh, and watch it in French sometime. Fuck knows what they're saying, but it looks like some really insightful film about Satre and Human Pain.
I need to save up for S5. When's the point at which it jumps the shark?
