Watched Watchmen. I don't know what to say about it that I didn't already say about the book. I will watch it moar sometime hopefully when I have forgotten some plot details and thus will spend less time going "Was that in the book? Is that a new bit? Where's that bit I liked?" It is indeed needlessly vicious and gory. I can sort of see that it's trying to show how bad the world is, but being in action sequences makes it more like gruesome entertainment and less like a Saward-style memo that "violence hurts." Was slightly less offended about the women this time round, even though it does sort of trap them into "female stories." Maybe I just had lowered standards having read the book and being sad about them not being as heroic as the men and so on. Also I did not need to see all the shagging, thanks very much, which just commodified Laurie even more. AND THERE IS NO SPOILER. I knew there was no spoiler in it but how can you leave out the spoiler? The spoiler is one of the best bits, why would you make a Watchmen adaptation without the spoiler? Spoiler's plan remains shit but I think that was probably the point. Not all of the exposition is handled that well, though, with a few instances of characters telling each other what they already know.
