From the flist. I can't be bothered working out how unpopular these are.
1. Susan Foreman is a character I think RTD could improve by bringing her back. He won't, but he probably could. So could most people, to be fair, but I'm trying to be controversial here.
2. I wish they'd burned more Hartnell and less Troughton. That said, I suspect Two would be less popular if more of his stories survived, since from my memory of the Target novelisations they often had the same plot every story.
3. Sorry, fandom, I am not buying the rehabilitation of Jo Grant. She's stupid and useless and screamed at a chicken.
4. Ten-Sarah > Four-Sarah. Sarah is a vast improvement over Jo, but she pales a bit when compared to Leela and Romana. Sarah is way better in SJA than she has ever been in DW itself.
5. FIVE NEEDS TO NOT BREATHE THROUGH HIS MOUTH. It's really hard to pay attention when you just want to force him to breathe like a normal person. It's like the Doctor has constantly just finished running a marathon. He is v lucky that Tom Baker wouldn't do The Five Doctors, cos damn he'd have shown up Five.
6. Erm, I don't actually think Colin was blameless. But I think Saward did a propaganda coup by convincing everyone that JNT caused all the shit stuff to happen. Because JNT with different script-editors was actually quite good. So unless he just lost all interest in creative control after Saward left, the problem seems to be Uncle Eric quite heavily. Saward was the one with the violence and the companions hating the Doctor and he wrote Peri and he has to answer for Six's characterisation.
7. I think Ghost Light makes sense, if not always the sense it was supposed to make.
8. I like the half-human thing. So there. The only problem with it is that it's really unlikely that the Master never stared lovingly into the Doctor's eyes didn't know about it.
9. Nine... sort of... he happened, I suppose. Meh.
10. Fear Her isn't that bad. It's no Girl Inna Fireplace, but it's way better than the Gatiss eps or Raynor's Dalek fiasco or Voyage Of Incredible Tedium.
11. Someone pretty for Eleven, pls.
12. I don't think anything has ever captured the perfect Doctor-Companion dynamic as concisely as "Give me some of that nitro-nine that you're not carrying."
13. Donna is the best New Who companion, with her only competition being Mickey. Martha and Rose both lose out for the same reason, which is a lack of stuff that isn't about how much they're in love with the Doctor. I mean, I would Ten, but Tennant ain't that hot.
14. I quite like the end of Family of Blood because I am weak for Oncoming Storm stuff, but it makes very little sense where it is. Basically it takes the Doctor away for two episodes and then gives us back a version of him that needs a hell of a lot more motivation than he's given. Or indeed any.
15. When the Doctor said "I forgive you" he blatantly meant "I love you." I mean that, cos it doesn't even have to be romantic love, cos it's something he has trouble saying and the word 'love' is bizarrely absent.
15a. Curse Of Fenric is partly about how much the Doctor and Ace love each other.
In conclusion: today I seem to feel much better towards Rusty than towards Saward. Shocking, I know.
