Despite this, he was not related to either the Doctor or the Master.

When he was growing up he always just sort of assumed he'd marry the Master.

Maybe the Master dumped him for someone. The Rani maybe. And the Doctor had his wee hearts BROKEN and cried for like weeks.

I can so see that.

And I might have to write it. Despite knowing nothing about the Rani.

'twas the arranged marriage that did it! I'm of the opinion that the Master is the jilted one, really. I bet the Master shagged the Rani and Flavia and anyone he could get his hands on while the Doctor was off having baaaaaaaabies with his missus (who he loved as a friend, IMHO, not with as much crazy fucked-up passion as the Master). I bet every time the Doctor and the Master were going through a break-up (of which there were many), they just shagged everyone in sight, trying to prove to the other that they didn't REALLY mean that much to them.

I am a bit of a Doctor/Susan'sGran shipper, but also I think Doctor/Master happened a lot up until one of them left the planet. And they have Done It since then.

Oh yeah, he loved her *a lot*. That bit of canon can't be taken away from me. I'm not *that* OTP about Doctor/Master, but yeah. Doctor/Master only went fucking insane when the Doctor had to run off with Susan thanks to some major catastrophe he'd caused, and he just said "I'll explain later" to Koschei, leaving him banging on the doors of the TARDIS very much like the Master made Ten do in Utopia. Poetic justice, yo.

There would have been a lot less death if the Doctor hadn't ditched the Master.

All the misery in the universe, ever, can be traced down to the point where the Doctor dumped the Master. Trufax. His TARDIS dematerialising caused a warp in the fabric of space-time and brought Murphy's Law into existence. *firm nod*
