In a completely non-incendiary and uncontroversial note, I still feel that fandom loves the Rich White Cock partly as a means of avoiding any sort of social commentary on the female experience, poverty, race, and indeed minority rights. Because heterosexual women having a problem with heterosexual sex suggests that someone somewhere is oppressing us, no? And the idea of "trading up" is inherently offensive because it entails accepting a social heirarchy that's artificially created by a culture that when you do the maths oppresses a majority of human beings. Becoming complicit in our own erasal from the cultural record squicks me the fuck out.

And yeah, similar to this is DW fandom being upset about a young woman showing any signs of having a sexuality that responds to things she's been culturally-guided to consider to be sexual overtures. Whether those signals are unreliable due to an alien source is another matter (I'd vote 'no' based on balance of evidence in the wider context), but WTF is with a grown woman having to Get Over what a young teenager is rewarded for reading in similar terms? Fuck character preferences, that's demanding that women be infantilised in case they confuse socially-inept men. And there really is nothing good that can be said about deifying a teenager over an adult when women have historically been disenfranchised and treated as children. There's Accidental Sexism and then there's Holy Fuck, Did You Just Say Women Are Best When They Have No Urges Of Their Own?
