The boat is br...

Normally when I start a post with "the boat is broken" it's not a good thing, but this time it's "the boat is broken-in"! We've gone the requisite 10 hours, and we actually did follow the rules, pretty much. In any case, we no longer have to restrict the length of time that we run at full power, or dork around at slow speeds for eight minutes in between ski runs.

Of course, it's getting a little cold in the lake. 66° yesterday. So it's wetsuits for waterskiing for me. Ken and I each took a run both yesterday and today, with yesterday being the last day of dorking.

However, I'm heading for California again, so I won't be here next week or next weekend, and since I'm the mover and shaker about waterskiing, it's likely that he won't actually go, especially since it will be difficult to acquire two other humans to help, with me gone. So, we will just have to see how cold it gets before there is next an opportunity to ski after I return. This past week it's been calm a lot, but that could change any time, and turn into 20 mile an hour wind every day instead. (Windsurfing anyone? Actually there is often good windsurfing in October.)

It's clear that we will not be getting 20 hours before the end of the season. I'm guessing we'll get 10 1/2 (we have 10 1/4 now). There's supposed to be a service at 20 hours, and I will call up the place when we actually haul the boat and tell them how many hours we actually have on it, and discuss whether we should do the 20 hour service early and winterize at the same time, or if we should bring them the boat in the spring for the service. It's kind of a drag that the place is an hour away, because in order to bring them the boat there's four hours of driving - there and back to drop it off and there and back to pick it up.

We also have a new problem in the lake, which is that there have been cyanobacteria blooms. We bought some test kits, and we've gotten negative results, but it's still a bit concerning. I've been showering after every dunk in the lake, and rinsing off my wetsuit in case there's any toxin. I hope that this does not become a yearly problem, but it's likely to, given global warming.
