haha hey there shelley! i recognize, as well, how brilliant the concept is in the mac advertisements. have you ever seen the newest pets-mart ad with the wiener dog and his toy? i think that's an exceptional example of a commercial like hitting not only it's target market of dog owners, but everyone else that loves animals as well. it's very relatable and charming. therefore it's a bit of a gamble for macintosh, creating an ad campaign with a mud-slinging edge. the fact that it is divisive means that people will respond, and talk (obviously) but they are also selling a high-priced product...a slight degree of interest won't sell laptops like a soda or candybar. in the end, i'm not studying advertising so you know i speculate at best.
...what i do know at least some about is what it's like to work with an apple computer, and basically i dislike it, even as i use one right now. it think the layout is pretty convoluted (and it's weird how they advertise making memories of family vacations with it when i seriously doubt the ability of older generations to figure out how to even do that on a mac, and also doubt the interest of teenagers or people our age who use macs wanting to edit videos of family events!). anyway, you should check out these mock ads just for a laugh. http://www.bestweekever.tv/2006/07/07/bwe-mac-ads/
