I planned on getting up early this morning, taking a nice long shower, cooking a good breakfast and enjoying a hot cup of coffee before going to work. I went to bed somewhat early, and set my alarms. Calm, soothing music to wake me up at 3:45, followed by my alarm clock at 4:00, followed by my phone alarm set to ring at 4:20 just in case I needed extra motivation. My wallet, keys, flashlight, etc. were arranged in my pants pockets the way I always have them, my badge and ID card clipped to my uniform shirt, along with two pens, a small notebook, my schedule (because half the time at roll call they don't know where I'm supposed to go, and if they don't know, how do I know....bam. right here on my monthly schedule.) a few dollars in quarters, and a few hard candies just in case my blood sugar starts getting low and I start feeling like crispy ass. Made lunch, set it out in the fridge, and grabbed a small bag of coffee to take to work with me, since the coffee the state provides is not that great. Actually it's pretty damn horrible. During our first day at CORE (academy) we were informed that a little bit of salt on top of the grounds cuts the bitterness and oils in the coffee, making it taste better and cutting down on the negative gastronomical consequences of drinking large quantities of shitty coffee. Moving on, in a nutshell I was all set and ready to enjoy my morning before going to work. Until I somehow managed to hit the snooze button enough times that my alarm clock said "fuck it" and just quit informing me that it was time to get my ass out of bed. I was having a dream about being at work, and someone calling me over the radio at the tower I was to be working in. I can think of many other things I would have much rather been dreaming about, but I digress. The "call" on the radio in my dream somehow woke me up, and as I glanced at the clock I realized that instead of waking up early and having two hours to enjoy my morning, I had 25 minutes to get my ass to my tower. I was dressed and out the door in under five minutes, got to work in another five, and got to where I needed to be with time to spare, where I proceeded to hurry up and wait for 8 hours of sitting in a tower where there is literally nothing to do other than look at stuff through binoculars, answer your radio every three or four hours, and drink lots and lots of coffee, followed by a quick 2 step journey to the toilet, followed by more consumption of coffee. Good times.
