[Whenever Ed makes his way down to the bar, he'll find most of the lights off and the shutters on the windows, but the door unlocked. Frankie is hunched over a table; the only company he's got is a couple of bottles, mostly empty.]

[ Ed rarely goes down to the underground. Brings back bad memories, you could say. But for Frankie- he'd do just about anything for his little brother nowadays.
The door opens with a conspicuous creak as Ed enters the room. It doesn't take him long to find Frankie at the bar, and with silence by his side, he pulls up a chair. He'll wait for Frankie to talk - whenever he's ready. ]

[It's a long while before he says anything, and Ed might rightly wonder if his brother has even noticed he's there. Frankie has, of course; he's just having a hard time working out words for this. As much as Ed has taken care of him over the years, they haven't done all that much talking. At least Frankie never did; and didn't much listen, either. Finally, though:]
Gone.
[He says it flatly, can't manage anymore than that. His tongue feels thick with regret and- admittedly- far too much alcohol in too short a time.]

[The corner of his lip pulls away from his teeth, half humorless grin and half snarl.]
Helps as much as anything. [There's a pause.]. Fuck. Fuck, [he hisses, pressing the heel of his clenched hand against his forehead, eyes shut, lips contorted. He's not great at dealing with pain, and he's just drunk enough to be incapable of hiding it.]

Hey. [ He reaches out a tentative hand, settling awkwardly, at first, on Frankie's shoulder, before it relaxes into a comforting grasp. She'll be back? Ed can't say that. ] I'm sorry.
[ The words come out rather stiffly. ]
It's hard to lose someone, even harder when you don't get a warning.

[He opens his mouth but doesn't say anything, just runs a dry tongue over dry lips, letting his arms fall to cross on the table in front of him. He doesn't dislodge Ed's hand; maybe he doesn't even notice.]
Met her when I got here, I was still-- all fucked up, you know. [Come from death and to death returning. He shakes his head slightly, slowly.] Took care of me. I owe her, you know? Can't do anything though.
[Because Eden's back in Belfast, which is the worst part. Knowing what she's gone back to, the chaos she's in the middle of.]

[ Romantic affairs aren't Ed's best department. He was always working, working, working when he was human. When it came to his vampire years, the thought of having a relationship while dead to the bone - he didn't feel comfortable. ]
From what I know of Eden- [ And that isn't much, but they did have a personal conversation recently. ] I don't think she'd appreciate you talking about her in terms of what's paid and owed. [He taps a finger on the table. ] You were with her, for the time she was here. Don't you think that meant something?

Means plenty. Don't help.
[He sighs, raises a hand to rub the back of his neck, eyes shut. He'd really like another drink but he has a feeling Ed won't let him.] Fuckin' battlefield she's going back to. How do you deal with that?

[It's not a very satisfying answer, and he frowns.]
Easier for you than me. You didn't have so far, so much to come back from. [Frankie sighs, a strong huff of breath through his nose, jaw still in a disapproving set.] Took more than the blood to make me human again.
[It took Eden; or at least, having her here made it easier. Maybe Ed can't sympathize. Maybe he's wasting his breath. If he wasn't half drunk, he wouldn't be saying anything.]

[ If Ed could provide satisfying answers, Frankie may not have went the way he went. ]
Losing someone important- [ Someone really important, not just one Frankie's old flings. ] Pain is a part of being human. You never forgot that, did you? My point still stands. You can't do anything, except give her a reason to trust you.
