I don't normally talk politics on this site, but I feel it's important that people know the facts about our current Comptroller. The following are all facts, not merely allegations against Alan Hevesi --
- He stole money from first New York City and now New York State to hire an employee, on governmental payrolls, to drive around his wife. The State Ethics Commission recently announced that he has violated state law -- the punishment ranges from fines to removal from office and will be set by the New York State Assembly. Here's the most recent news article
- He has been caught using employees hired by the state in his office to perform tasks pertaining to his campaign for reelection. He was caught with an employee recording a speech by his Republican opponent, Chris Callaghan and when approached he said, "I didn't realize, I'll make the employee take a sick-day." He's the man in charge of the books of the state of New York, he should realize that before abusing employee privaleges.
- Hevesi's office lost the names, home addresses, and social security numbers of nearly 1500 employees of the State, failed to contact them about this security breech in a reasonable time, and still has yet to find the missing data or remove the problematic employees who could have lost such data.
- Hevesi purportedly fired a State employee after said employee complained about being sexually harassed by one of his personal aides, despite the employee having exemplary records of service. A male, personal aide of Alan Hevesi was purportedly sexually harassing a male receptionist. The receptionist, who had reportedly received exemplary marks as an outstanding employee, filed a formal complaint about Hevesi's aide. He was subsequently fired. The employee recently filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on this matter.
I urge all of you who live in New York to strongly consider voting for
Chris Callaghan for Comptroller. He is an honest, hardworking man who has been the County Treasurer from Saratoga County for nearly 10 years and served in finance since the 80s. He's also the best chance New Yorkers have of defeating Alan Hevesi.
I know, I can be a partisan hack, but know this -- 1) Before learning all the facts about Hevesi, I was planning to vote for him because he's been a decent Comptroller discounting all the data placed before you; 2) I do not plan to vote GOP for Attorney General as I am disgusted in the corruption associated with Jeanine Pirro and her husband; 3) I rarely try to bring politics over into my once a month posted Livejournal. Please consider this. Thank you.
