Joss Whedon to do a Marvel TV show for ABC??

From Think Progress:

Per the good folks at ComicBookMovie.com, who base their reporting on a Disney investors’ call, Joss Whedon, who co-wrote and directed The Avengers, will return for the movie’s sequel for Marvel, and also will be developing the planned ABC Marvel superhero show. It’s about as perfect a fit as I can imagine, giving the artistic and commercial success of The Avengers. And if the ABC show centers on a woman, it would fit beautifully with Whedon’s brand, given his success with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, arguably the best successful superhero show of the last two decades, and his terrific expansion of Black Widow in The Avengers. Such a move would also help expand make Marvel’s on-screen universe more balanced, making this continued pairing an especially good fit.

If Joss Whedon actually does a Black Widow TV show, I will seriously invest far more in that series than I will in the Arrow TV show that's coming out in October. Nothing I've seen in the promos for that show looks new or innovative in any way, shape, or form, and instead appears to be reinforcing the same problematic tropes that the mainstream comics are suffering from at the moment.

While not flawless, at least Whedon knows how to tell a fun superhero story with a strong female lead that can function independently without resorting to grimdark to sell. The fact that The Avengers is the third highest grossing film of all time right after Avatar and Titanic alone says that you can tell a fun superhero story where the heroes actually wear their comic costumes and still be successful. Not even Nolan's entire Batman trilogy made it up there with Titanic and Avatar in box office hits, despite the huge success of The Dark Knight.
