Abit of a random thought, I tend to harvest those while working and then come back to them later. Back in 1981, There was a Marvel/DC crossover book featuring Batman and the Hulk. I'm not sure how long after that my dad bought it for me, but I remember it being in pretty good shape and being excited about it. I would have been around 8 or 9 at the time, and there's a scene in it that I still remember pretty strongly.
You have to remember, in my world the Joker was Ceaser Romero, and everything that WestBatman! brought with it. There's a scene that, while the reasons escapes me, the Joker decides it's time to prove a point to his henchmen. He doses one with his Joker venom and the guy gets that wierd grin on his face and kicks it. For the longest time I kept re-reading that page and trying to figure out what happened to that thug later. It didn't hit me that he'd actually killed somebody for a long time after that.
When do you remember reading, for the first time, that comic books sometimes had a body count between the covers?
