There's another discussion forum/board where I talk about comics, and we've sort of decided - the Cadmus arc is the perfect 10 which any other cartoon has to be compared to (the Green Goblin reveal on Spectacular Spider-Man is the closest so far at a 9). The DCAU is just so perfect because all they try to do is tell good stories that anyone can watch.

Say what you will about Wolverine and the X-Men, but it's the best X-Men representation that's hit TV. The 90s series seemed great at the time but the animation is kinda crappy and it's way too melodramatic. Which given how heavily it draws on Claremont, makes sense. Evolution was better but was far too obviously targeted at kids and suffered for it. WatXMen is the spiritual successor of Evolution - bar a few things it could be a straight up sequel, and it's pretty solid all around.

And Spectacular Spider-Man has the advantage of Spider-Man starting young so it's got a perfect built in kid audience. Making so many of the villains more intertwined with Peter isn't a choice I'd have made, but they've reworked origins in a very effective way.

I dunno, that's pretty much the X-Men right there. Granted, I could never watch that series without nostalgia goggles anymore, but episodes I've seen recently are still fun despite their shortcomings.

And it prolly has the second-most iconic theme song of any superhero cartoon ever!

Well, except that the Xavier/Logan relationship in W&tXM was nowhere near as slashy as that in Evolution, and traitorous.Rogue was nowhere near the perfect hotness that was goth.Rogue.
