One of my favorite Internet columns right now is ReTales by Jud Meyer over at
Comics101.com. It's also featured as a regular column over at
Comic Book Resources. It's a great look at the behind-the-counter operations of a comic book store. But more than that, Jud writes several heart-warming stories about his regular customers, comic book fans

Home Run Video is downtown, a few blocks from my job. Their organization is pretty inane, so if you're looking for back issues, you're pretty much out of luck. New and recent issues and trades aren't too bad, though. I've found some good stuff there, I've also gotten frustrated just looking for stuff there. Comics is maybe 1/3 of their deal, so I guess I can't blame 'em.
Comics And More is owned by the same guy. It's a few blocks from my house, and man oh man do they have their shit covered. If you know what you're looking for, you can find it easy. These guys are my go-to guys. Also, being that they own Home Run, if I'm looking for something they don't have, they can cross-reference it against the other store's database, save you the trouble of looking.
My only problem is sometimes I feel a little uneasy browsing when the manager's working. The guy has an unfriendly vibe.
The Comic Box is in the middle of my bus route to work. I don't go there so often because of this. They're the store most of my friends would go to, but that has a lot to do with them dealing so hugely in tabletop games. I'm just there for the comics. They are better than Home run in that respect, but they're no Comics And More.
There's also Galactic Comics in nearby Garden City, but I've only been there once, and they seemed to be mainly concerned with tabletops.
