It could be cool, but we all know Bruce will be back at some point, so she'd eventually be relegated back to being his supporting character, and not something in her own right.

I'd rather she stay as Oracle or become something entirely new, if she has to change.

Yeah, that's the problem. If Bruce really did die, and she took up his mantle ... it would be hard as hell, but they could make that work. Charlie could be her Robin! Tim could be her Oracle!

Ah, that would make such a good set-up. Tim could totally be Oracle Jr, and Charlie as Robin? GENIUS!

That's actually a nice counterbalance to Dick being Batman, with Steph as Robin and Cass as Batgirl.

Tim actually had a similar role in the Elseworld's Finest: Supergirl/Batgirl comic. He was the computer guy working for Wonder Woman's JLA.

even if she did end up becoming Bruce's replacement, it'll be weird for her to still be Batgirl. if she does regain use of her legs and puts a costume on again, can't she just keep the name Oracle or pick a new one?

Or they bump off Kathy Kane and make Babs the new Batwoman.

That...I could support.

Bump off who?

(I know, just kidding.)

So, my crazy thought is that if Oracle is getting her legs fixed, it will allowed her to take over Rip Hunter's job as Booster Gold's controller. That allows her to do still her shadowy spy leader thing, but with all of history/the multiverse as her playground rather than just Earth.

(Also, it sets up a Moonlighting scenario with her and Booster which is about the only plausible way to put her in a position to be Rip Hunter's mom. It also adds another layer to Rip Hunter's motives in Booster Gold 5.)

Granted, there are reasons to not like that scenario (Babs would become a supporting character rather than a main character, and neither Booster and Babs are the other's type. Plus, you know, Ted.) But it's better than most of the likely scenarios I can see.

I don't mean to dampen your theory, but...Barbara's not that smart. Rip Hunter built a time machine, Barbara...um...what does she do again? My point it, if the time machine broke, Rip could fix it. He serves a genuine purpose. Barbara...she...I know it's something technical.

Smoke signals?

She has the plug for the entire internet under her desk.

I'm not touching that one, at all.

Why not combine both paths and have Oracle as a (sometimes) costumed persona?

Seems to me that the Oracle identity would lose some of its power that way.
There's a lot of strength in the anonymity--as much of that as there still is--and the distance from the physical operations that a costumed aspect of the persona might hurt.

Not to say it can't be done, but it'd be a hard sell.

At least it wouldn't be giving up Oracle altogether.

I just realized that in essence, Oracle is the first Anonymous.

Dammit.
