Hey, look! It's
meresy's birthday! And even though she's up north right now and likely won't see this until tomorrow, I couldn't let Meres' birthday pass unnmarked. So! I have written her a story. Or, rather, I started writing her a story last year, and...it took a while.
Anyway. Here's the fic!
Title: Swimming with Sharks
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 38,000 words
Warning: Some non-triggery references to noncon. Bad language. Lots and lots (and lots) of sex. I did mention the sex, right?
Author’s Notes: Many thanks to
innocentsmith for being my
ficfinishing cheerleader and offering some terrific notes and advice about the story. And, as always, a hearty thanks to
j_s_cavalcante for grammar wrangling, hand-holding, and making a number of excellent contributions to the narrative. These two ladies helped me make sense of this story, and made sure that you can, too. At one point in the story Fraser quotes Emily Dickinson’s poem “The Heart Asks Pleasure First.” I sincerely hope that this is the only story that incorporates Dickinson, humour, angst, and the “undercover at a gay bar” and “fuckbuddies” clichés.
Dedication: For my very best galpal
meresy, who foolishly believed me when I said I’d write her something for her birthday. In 2008. One year later, this is the result.
Meres asked for “An F/K fic [with] lots of UST, since I dig that, so probably First Time. I like misunderstandings. And that angst our Nos does so well (with a HAPPY ENDING, mind you, you angstmuffin!) I like outing/confession fic. I like the boys being dorks.” She also liked
secretlybronte’s idea of “Ray stumbling upon Fraser handing out safe sex packets for a GLBT organization.”
Because it’s Meres, I did my best to incorporate all of those elements. *wipes brow* I fear it’s a wee bit angstier than she wanted, but I suspect she knew what she was getting into when she made this request.
This one’s for you, kiddo! Happy birthday, and I hope it was worth the long, long LONG wait!
Summary: Ray runs into Fraser at the wrong kind of club, and the two men make an unusual arrangement with one another.
