It's 8pm and I am suddenly unable to keep my eyes open! This is totally unnacceptable. I blame the exercise. And the enormous veggie pad thai I just ate. And the fact that my cat is a warm, sleepy weight on my legs, and I just beta'd a truly fabulous bit of porn, and
scarfe and I walked to work together this morning and bumped shoulders and giggled a bit. All seems right with the world.
But before I drift off to slumberland, there's a couple of things I should mention:
1.
There's new podfic afoot! No, I'm not talking about
zabira's
fabulous reading of
j_s_cavalcante's erotic F/K story
Under the Skin, although you should, y'know, pick that one up. A while ago I emailed
arrow00 if she'd be comfortable if I recorded
Edge of Snow, which just so happens to be one of my favourite stories. And she bravely agreed.
Here is the result. (Please right-click and "save as").
The reading turned out quite well, I think, aside from my odd pronunciations and tendency to over-emote. (Let's face it, I'm a ham. A big ol' hammy-ham. When the direction is, 'Fraser's voice cracked with emotion,' I try to do it in my reedy girl-voice, and it's not quite the same). I hope you'll give this podfic a listen! And read the story and send some feedback and tell
arrow00 how totally awesome she is!
2.
brynnmck and I are a bit troubled by how the mono-fandom polling went over at
bitchinparty - it was a complete c6degrees shut-out, and with only 5 spaces afforded to mono-fandom topics, due South and its antecedents will dominate the schedule unless we do some adjusting. Tomorrow, once I've slept a bit, I'm going to put together some run-off polls to help even things out and give other fandoms a chance to shine in the Seattle Con spotlight.
3.
The RCMP have been recruiting pretty aggressively at the college where I work, and I went to one of their information sessions a couple of nights ago. Many interesting details were gleaned, and I might even try writing their aptitude test next Monday. My fascination with para-military organizations (or, hell, military organizations) never ends. I've emailed
sageness and worked out a plan to turn my notes from the session into a
ds_workshop post which will hopefully shed some light on crazy Mountie shenanigans. (They showed us a video about Depot. So. Gay.) Anyway, look for that in early February.
4. This time I did have a number 4, but I forgotted it. So sleeeeepy!
5. You are all very lovely and you bring me much joy. And that's not just the sleep-deprivation talking! I was reading a non-filtered version of my f-list for the first time in days and days, and I was struck by the sheer number of all the shiny, wonderful people I've gotten to know (either in person or online) over the past few years. You write beautiful stories and post meaningful entries and you make lovely artwork. Some of you tell jokes and make me smile, and some of you talk about critical political and social issues and make me think. And some of you use Photoshop to show us
what Hugh Dillon would look like as a manatee. I love you all dearly.
Okay, I'm calling it a night. Snoooooze you later!
