First of all, many happy returns to the lovely and talented
shoemaster. She's a fabulous roomie, a great cheerleader when it comes to unlikely (but brilliant) fic ideas, and she even beta'd my remix story even though she's never read the fandom. I hope her birthday is of the good, and that she receives lots of lovely boykissing-related presents. Happy birthday, hon!
Secondly, I haven't done a personal update in a while - it's been all Wings of Desire fic, rentboy angst, and conversation snippets the last little while. I'll keep the RL update short, though, because it's Sunday and that means housework and laundry and prep for my classes.
Some highlights you may or may not choose to care about:
1. They gave me back my second college night class, which means I'm teaching two sections on two different nights. That was a relief, since I'd given up some hours at my other job so I could teach Thursday nights. And then they cancelled Thursday nights, so I was boned. But it all worked out well in the end.
2.
scarfe has purchased a hamster. He's wanted a rodent-like pet ever since he was a little kid, and this is his big chance to redress a childhood wrong. He's named the creature "Peanut Butter" which, to me at least, seems like something a child might name a pet in a Judy Blume book. We're open to suggestions, so if anyone has a good name for a hamster stashed away please pipe up. If we get another and he names it "Jelly" I think I'll have to leave him.
The hamster is cute and fluffy and a little fat, and our cat Emily has no clue what to do with it. She simply sits at the foot of the bookshelf and stares at the cage. For hours. I think this is a vast improvement over her previous tendency to stare at water dripping into the bathtub. Maybe.
3. I bought an iPod. It'll be here by next week, and I'm damn excited about my consumer purchase. It's one of the new generation players, with the fancy-bright video screen and the 80G memory and now I feel like I am truly on the cutting edge. My iShuffle wasn't really doing it for me. Plus this way I'll have a little more variety as I jog. (That's right. I justify the expense because I use it for exercise purposes.)
4. I am a truly horrendous bowler. Or at least horribly inconsistent.
scarfe and our friend Sarah hit the ten-pin lanes last night and none of us bowled over 100. I think my highest score was an 86. That is *shameful*. But we decided that if any of us did it more often than once every two years we'd be as good as that Amish guy in Kingpin.
And maybe then we'd get team shirts. And matching windbreakers. And maybe our own shoes instead of the rented ones that smell like ass.
So that's it. I'm still graaaaading assignments from last term, and this new batch of students seem very similar to the old. Maybe they're pod people. Pod people who mangle syntax and make light with the past participle.
Happy Sunday everyone!
