At the close of one of the most productive days in recent history I come bearing fic recs

Feb 21, 2007 23:53

I was a machine today. I went for an hour-long jog along the harbourfront this morning, because after reading jamethiel_bane's very brave and honest and insightful post about dealing with depression I thought, y'know what? Time to take action. So...jogging. And hopefully swimming on Friday mornings at the rec centre before my shift, and yoga in the evenings, and ( Read more... )

ds recs, real life stuff

*hugs the stuffing out of you*

Thanks so much. Oh, my God, you made my week. Because it's hard to write 21,000 words and then have to accept that almost no one has read them.

Mature and sexy: that's exactly the effect I intended for this story, and I worked my ass off writing it for Sage, not only because I adore her fic in general, but because she wrote the best most wonderful HCL fic out there...for me. It was not only a fantastic, redemptive HCL story, it was also a multimedia experience! She made a soundtrack and an album cover for it! (It's on hcl_fic with a bunch of other wonderful HCL fics. Which, again, not a lot of people have read! *cries*)

So I felt she deserved my best work for this challenge, and I tried to give it.

I love threesomes a lot, probably way more than is socially acceptable (*grin*), but F/K/V is tough, from my perspective. That's not only because Vecchio is straight (!), which is a giant hurdle, but also because F/K is, to my mind, such a clear and obvious OTP. Vecchio's not part of that, but he's okay with it--I think he is, anyway. I think he figures out the relationship between them pretty quickly and that when he tells Fraser "go get your man" he's not really talking about Muldoon. Because there's bemusement and love in his tone, but there's no anger, which you'd expect to hear from a cop who got shot by Muldoon. Vecchio's gotten madder over getting his clothes ruined or his car wrecked, for heaven's sake.

I was surprised to have been assigned F/K/V, when I figured there were probably lots more writers out there who believed in it and could do it better justice, but I was sure as hell going to try. That meant I had to see if I could re-envision it for myself and find a plausible scenario in which such a liaison could actually happen. Vecchio's undercover gig gave me some leeway for how and why he might have changed enough to take love (and sex) where he finds it, and canon gives us a giant loophole in the Stella/Vecchio area, because it never expressly says that they married.

So anyway, I do realize that story turned out quite different from most F/K/V fics, and it totally doesn't toe the party line (if there is one), but it was the most believable scenario that I felt I could come up with. And as always, those three guys just took over and told me what they were going to do. :)

And I just sent a big long rambly email in which I gush shamelessly about the greatness of "Duet With..."

*is floored*

That is the most amazing and wonderful feedback letter I have ever received. I just...well, I already tried to tell you in email how much I appreciated it, but I'm sure I didn't come close. Thank you, so much.
