Forgiveness.

[Hello, fellow Vatheonites. Jacob hasn't spoken to you in a while. He gazes at the camera with pensive eyes, pausing before continuing to speak.]

Forgiveness is a rather complicated subject. Everyone knows what forgiveness is, but when it comes to actually thinking about how to use it in a situation, there are no clear rules about it. ( Read more... )

... It depends on the person. But generally... yes. You forgive them. You forgive them until they change, because everyone can change.

That's true. Though it may seem like people will never change their ways, they surprise you.

They do. Even if you have to wait years and years...

[He rubs the back of his neck, a little embarrassed by his own sappiness.]

Are you all right?

[He smiles, nodding. If there's anything wrong, it's very hard to tell Jacob keeps his feelings locked up in there pretty well.]

Of course I am. I was turned into a child for a week, though, but otherwise I'm fine. Are you?

I... I think it depends on how bad their actions are, to me. There's one person I'll never be able to forgive from my past life no matter how many hundreds and hundreds of years go by. But then Xigbar--He hurt someone I love, but I could never stay mad at him. He was really the only friend I had for the longest time 'n I trust him. I dunno what his standpoint would be on the whole thing, but I like to think we've got a really, really, really strong level of trust between each other.

[He pauses, rubbing at a faint scar under his shirt on his shoulder.] Heck, he even shot me once cuz I woke him up super early but looking back on it now? It's funny. But the other person? The one who I can never forgive? I'm normally a super passive guy but I'd probably throttle her fat neck if I saw her crawl into this place. She ruined the life of my Other--literally.

That's understandable. If she made such a horrible impact on your life, it would be surprising if you didn't feel anything like that towards her.

Even people who hurt others may do it for their own reasons. It's very rare when someone hurts someone else just because they can. There is always a complex explanation for how people act. It isn't simple.

I just hope I never see her again. She's just as bad as Larxene, 'cept Larxene only made this life feel like Hell sometimes.

Are people ever simple, man?

Hopefully she won't appear here.

[He shakes his head, smiling somewhat in amusement.]

No, they never are. I've never met anyone who was ever simple before.

I could have killed you.

...and, no, I don't think everyone deserves forgiveness.

Johnny...

[A sigh.]

You didn't kill me. I'm still here, aren't I?

And I believe everyone does deserve forgiveness. You are not a bad person. Quite the opposite.

I shouldn't have lost control like that....or, better yet, I shouldn't have taken a bite at all.

[Wry smile.]

I've done my share of bad, but I wasn't referring to myself, that time.

No, you should have. Because it is because of me that you are now walking around and not being weak. It was a sacrifice that had to be made on my part to help you.

Who were you referring to, then?

Unfortunately, forgiveness isn't something I can extend to those who've hurt my friends. [He knows this subject far too well, has seen too much since he left home. Shaking his head, he continues.] I'd rather forgive, but it's impossible for me to do so when those who harmed others I know are trying to destroy everything.

[A nod.] It is hard to forgive when the damage is still being done, I agree. And forgiving the people who have hurt the ones you love is quite hard.

[He knows. :(]

[He's begun to suspect that Jacob always knows. :| Regardless, he nods.]

...Does it ever get easier?

To forgive those who have hurt you in that way? It depends. It does after a while, but you must be willing to put it behind you, and that may the hardest thing to do.

[Rayfell looks at the other man for a few moments before she shrugs lightly.]

Hm...forgiveness is a rather interesting subject to be honest...so are deserving while others...not so much. I have to say it depends on the situation.

[Oh, this is interesting. A woman who looks exactly like Johnny. Like a twin. He smiles at her.]

Of course it depends on the situation and the person you are forgiving. You can't take the same strategy on different people.

...Isn't that right?

[She notices the smile and just stares a little.]

Hm...this is true...if you know them that can change things as well.

Who is it you are thinking of possibly not forgiving?

Exactly.

[He pauses, and then switches on the filter so that it's just to her, staring at her with a sad smile.]

Johnny Rayflo. You know him.
