Wow! Thanks for the link to the Woody Guthrie song. In the US, there is no commemmoration at all of the fight against the Nazis in the USSR, much less individual figures, because ever since the close of WWII, right-wing anti-communist propaganda has produced an entirely revisionist narrative in which the US alone, with a little help from the Brits and the Free French, tho' not much, defeated the Axis singlehandedly -- those who wished to continue the US-USSR alliance following the war were defamed, prosecuted, persecuted, driven from positions in the academic and acting communities under the suspicion of being Soviet agents (yes, most of my co-citizens are utterly brain-frakked).
