I thought I'd just come home and collapse after work today, but I got a second wind and caught up on TV instead. So my non-spoilery verdicts: Hellcats was not as bad as I was expecting, based on the reviews I'd seen, but I'm not going to be tuning in again; Vampire Diaries continues to blow me away with how much stuff happens in every episode; and Nikita was much better than I was expecting, and I think I may be hooked.
I actually haven't watched television since early July, when my cable got all befucked (it still is, but miraculously I get the CW) and honestly I was thinking of just cancelling my cable since I was getting along without TV. I probably still will only be watching CW things this season.
But not Hellcats. I knew it was about cheerleaders, but I didn't realize how much it was stealing from the Bring it On storyline, and I really, really, really don't care to see a retread of that. I actually kind of liked the main characters (and it does have a hot cast) but I am just uninterested in this plot, so sorry, TW. Pick better projects in the future.
I skimmed a few people's reviews of TVD and must agree with everyone that Nina Dobrev was AMAZING. And I love how this show is constantly upending our plot expectations--like making us all think Jeremy was going to be vamped and have it turn out to be Caroline instead. I honestly thought Jeremy was dead there, for a minute, because on this show it could actually happen. And wow, I was a little sympathetic to Damon getting rejected twice in one evening until he killed Jeremy. HOLY SHIT. I knew they weren't really going to redeem him, but DAMN. I also really loved Bonnie as kickass vampire slayer injurer. And wow, Katherine is just a FANTASTIC villain.
I had not read anything about Nikita, but I was a fan of the earlier version of the show, so I couldn't imagine I would actually like this--the only reason I taped it is I was late getting to work and didn't have time to look up whether TVD was still on at 8 or had moved to 9 when I set my VCR. But I really, really loved it. I do have a big jones for "person against the system" shows, and I thought it was clever that they set up Alex to give us a glimpse of what Nikita's own indoctrination was like--so I completely didn't guess the twist that Alex was undercover, which I LOVED. And I already have a little bit of a crush on Maggie Q, so I expect I'll be sticking with this.
