Next time at the DMV, BMV or whatever you call it.

I went on my first case last night.  The patient had indicated on her driver's license that she wanted to be an organ donor and her family respected her wishes.

I can't stress how important it is to indicate organ donor on your driver's license.   Not that I'm trying to push you into being a donor (that will come later) but because it is a gift you give your family.  The decision to be a donor can cause a lot of stress for family.  It can cause a major breakdown in communication in the family, animosity and full blown arguments.  This is not something you want to leave as a legacy.  Can you imagine your siblings and your parents having a screaming match because they disagree on what should be done?  It happens.  Not a huge percentage of the time, but enough.

So, the moral of the story is this... if you want to be a donor, say so.  Put it on your license.  Tell your loved ones.  "Hey, renewed my license today, I'm an organ donor, FYI".
