Just a quickie

This is awful. It scares me.

But that's not why I've linked to it. Why I have is the sheer number of Americans who seem to be queueing up to say that this is all because of British gun control laws. Um.... ok? We don't know anything about the circumstances of how this took place, and yet one guy explicitly says "this would not have happened if they had guns, period". Um, says who? People still get murdered and robbed in America - er, in fact, I believe they get murdered at a rate of about four times that in this country. Are these people suggesting that everyone who gets murdered there is one of those few who doesn't own a firearm? That owning a gun means you're safe from everything? What then?

I absolutely cannot STAND the sort of people who actually believe Britain would be better if it had the same gun laws as America. Particularly Americans who say it (at least British people know what it's like living in a country without guns). There are few places in this country where shopkeepers stand behind bulletproof glass, no people you'd be scared to say the wrong thing to because you know they carry a gun in their glove compartment. Yes we have knife crime but I believe everyone has that, independent of their gun control laws, and at least knives don't "go off" accidentally. I don't agree with the gun laws in America, but they're at the end of the day Americans' decision. Stay out of ours, silly Times website NRA nutters.
