I've been playing Guild Wars alot recently, because I don't have the mood to get out of the house, being ill and all. Another reason (mood killer) why I don't feel like going out is because of re-assessment. Bah. So here is a report of my current adventures in the game, complete with screenshots and info for those of you who don't play Guild Wars. It's kind of like a screenshot essay.
We Pwned The Diessa Lowlands
This is THE team! :D I'm the dood in the middle... Yes, a dood because I always play a dood in games. I've been gaming for years and one thing that I notice about female RPG characters is how bitchy they look or how little they wear, etc etc. I'm much more comfortable being a dude. They get cooler clothes too!
Introduction
Gandolf The Wite - He's a lvl 13 E/W which means Elementalist/ Warrior. Elementalist is his primary class and it's just another word for mages. Unlike mages however, elementalists can specialize in all kinds of elemental magic at once, hence the name. He's really good. I would have thought the two classes are kind of incompatible, but he makes it work. He nukes and he also bashes.
Alanis Makai - Alanis is not naked. She is actually wearing a special type of armour, which appears like veins on her body. She is also known as the Death Necromancer Goddess to me :D I mean, wait till you see her minions. Everytime I try to target something to kill, her minions which she raises from fallen corpses, get him first. So spoil market lor! But I'm not complaining, because without her, me and Gandolf would have died before completing the three quests. Her class combination is quite ingenious, because she's a primary Necromancer and secondary Monk. And since she is a Death Necromancer, that means she can heal her MINIONS and well as herself! That's worth a lot because newly raised dead don't last long...
Sin Blackwind - That's me. Sin is a N/W which means Necromancer/Warrior. I'm a Blood Necromancer, which means I use blood magic, unlike Ms. Makai. Instead of raising new soldier meat from dead meat, what I do is absorbing the lifeforce of my enemies for myself. I chose Warrior as a secondary profession because I thought I would be total pwnage as I slice and dice my enemies and suck the life out of them. Unfortunately, it also puts me very close to them and necromancers die quite easily. Good thing I have swordsmanship skills that saps my enemies' hp too!
Yes, those are all hers! If you can't spot her, try looking for a patch of green hair...
Back to the story.
Basically, we're here in the very dangerous and charr infested Diessa Lowlands to complete three ardous quests. Charrs are big furry humanoids, which attack and travel
in a pack. They have their own shamans, blade warriors, mad axemen... etc. The mad axemen are particularly dangerous and the shamans like to heal them. And
themselves. Very annoying.
A Charr. This one's probably a Flamewielder or something.
And hey, if you think the world looks kind of... strange, let me now tell you that it got 'destroyed'.
It got charred, lol. Literally burnt to the ground. The official term used in the game is The Searing.
The Searing didn't destroy the whole of the world in the game, but it pretty much destroyed Ascalon.
I'm going to keep using the term 'world' though, because I haven't explored past Ascalon, being only lvl 12.
Let's compare the two worlds... ...
(I miss my old sword!)
Well, I guess this world has a beauty of its own... Sometimes!
The 'water' you see here isn't really water but a tar pit... It slows movement, so good thing there are no enemies nearby.
Here's the City before it got destroyed, taken with my ranger friend, Neon Lites.
The City now... Very harsh enviroment. Both Neon and I don't really like the post [Searing] world as it's so often called. But one has to move on with life, even if it only exists in pixels...
The Quests
The Duke's Daughter
Objective: Find the Duke's Daughter.
Location: Diessa Lowlands
The Duke's Daughter Part II - Althea's Ashes
Objective: After talking to the ghost of Althea, the Duke's daughter, you are to talk to the Duke and then to retrieve her ashes. Apparently she was burnt alive by the Charr and in typical lame "romantic" RPG fashion, her ghost says, "I was burned alive but thought of Prince Rurik and felt no pain." As if!
Location: Diessa Lowlands
Fires In The North
Objective: Fires are sacred to the Charr, who make their prescence known by making huge effigies and setting them aflame. They have flame keepers, who tend to the flames at all times. They believe that if their flames are put out, their lives would be 'extinguished' alongside with them. In other words, this is a morale killer quest.
Location: DEEP within the Diessa Lowlands, in the Flame Temple.
Garzazz Bloodfang
Objective: Some guy named Viggo has a personal feud with this charr, because he almost pwned him. Pwn him and get your reward from Viggo.
Location: Diessa Lowlands
Before you Bah, Humbug me, let me remind you how many charrs there were in the area. This is the highest density of them I could find on the mini maps within my screenshots. It's not really that much compared to the numbers we encountered upclose, because hey, who has time to take screenshots when you are in peril?
The red dots represent enemies and the green dots represent us. The little green pyramids are Ms. Malik's minions.
Timeline of Personal Progress
Here's a gallery of my progress as my character switches sets of armour and weapons...
My n00b look. Level 2 necromancer, haven't got a second job.
My second set of armour, which looks better but has worse defence than my current set of armour. Lvl 9 N/W.
My current look, I'm currently a lvl 12 N/W. For a clearer but none full body picture of my current set of armour, please refer to the post-Searing picture of the City.
