So I finally managed to unlock all the packs with Fabled monsters, so I built both a standing deck and riding deck for Martyrverse!Kiryuu. It's done fairly well against the AIs, I've won about 95% of the duels with it. I just need a bit of help fine-tuning it and I'm open to suggestions for either the actual decks or a side deck of fifteen extra ( Read more... )

gale plays card games?, arrpee, fanfic, halp, 5d's

So is this...an actual deck that you're using, or a fictional deck? I'm a little confused

Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the Fabled archetype - I don't think I've ever encountered a Fabled deck, actually. Since I like deckbuilding and learning about archetypes I might look them up later on the Wikia and comment more about the deck itself, but in the meantime a couple of things that I did notice:

1. What rules are you playing by with this deck? In advanced format (the one most commonly seen), Honest has been limited to one card (as of...a few months ago I think? It's a relatively new development at any rate.)
2. It seems kind of weird to me that you only have two different kinds of spell cards. Also, three Pot of Avarices seems like a bit much (and now that I think of it, that might also be limited, but I'd have to check).

I have no idea if this is the kind of feedback you were looking for. I can look up more/comment more later today. ;-;

Also: I finally started watching YGO 5D's! heh. I watched an ep this weekend and hope to watch one or two more tonight.

It's a deck that I'm using inside the WC 2011 game, and it's going to be a fictional deck used by Kiryuu in the fic if I ever get around to it.

1. I'm not entirely what rules I'm playing by, since it's whatever WC 2011 allows, and that game's been out for about...a year-ish?
2. I couldn't really think of much else for Spell Cards, so I'm looking for opinions on those, and yeah, three does seem like a bit much ahahaha. I don't really get much use out of them anyways, derp.

Any kind of feedback is good, really, since I'm an amateur at best. Commentary on the deck itself sounds really great, actually. :D

Yaay! I hope you end up liking the series. :3

What's WC 2011? Is it a video game? (if so, I WANT IT)

It's short for World Championship 2011, and it's the last of the three World Championship DS games that is set in the 5D's timeline. I think up to 2006 or 7 it was set in DM and 2008 it was set in GX timeline. And the 5D's games are the first ones to include a semblance of storyline other than "beat the tournaments, be the best yay." WC 2009 follows season one, 2010 follows season two, and 2011 follows season three and an abridged version of season 4.

It's for DS? *wants* maybe I'll have to pop into Game Stop or some other store to see if I can get a used copy. (I'll need to finish the show first though hehe) The only YGO video game I have right now is Eternal Duelist Soul for GBA, and even then I only have it on emulator - I used to play my ex's copy on my GBA SP but...yeah. *wants m0ar YGO*

Anyway, I guess you'd have to check the game itself to see what the rules are. And as for roleplay/fiction, it depends on the setting and the others involved - do they want to use rules from a specific point in time (RL) or from the show or no rules at all?

Here's a resource that might be helpful: the TCG Limited and Forbidden List, which is updated every few months. It also specifics traditional v advanced rules (though the only real difference is that anything banned in advanced becomes limited in traditional).

As for some other spell cards? Well, again, I don't know much about the Fableds (yet), but there are some spells that are great support for just about any deck. Some you might want to consider are Monster Reborn, Swords of Revealing Light, Dark Hole and/or Lightning Destruction, Shield Crush and/or Smashing Ground and/or Nobleman of Crossout, and Monster Reincarnation. Some generally useful traps are Mirror Force, Solemn Judgment, Call of the Haunted, Threatening Roar, Sakuretsu Armor/Scrap-Iron Scarecrow/Dimensional Prison, and Trap Hole/Bottomless Trap Hole/Torrential Tribute. Those help almost any deck. There are also popular spells/traps that help many decks though they may be useless or detrimental to some. Finally, most archetypes have their own sets of spell and trap cards.

The same goes for monsters - there are some universally useful and popular monsters that may or may not help you out; some gel better with certain decks (and example is Honest if you have a significant number of Light monsters).

Oh man, now I'm all curious about the Fabled so I'll go look them up. =3

I'm pretty sure at least one GameStop might have one my brother saw one the other day when he was buying a birthday present, but he got Megaman Star Force 3: Black Ace instead.

The story itself is going to actually be a rewrite of Seasons 1 and 2, up to the end of the Dark Signer Arc, so it would follow those anime rules except Fabled were never used in those, baw, so I guess it's right back to figgering out TCG.

Those traps and spells do sound helpful, I'll have to figure out how to make room for them, though, since I don't really want to make a deck any larger than 43 or 45 cards.

oh shit shit I just spent a buncha time working on this comment because it was really tl;dr and then accidentally left the page TT_TT

ugh me = not happy

anyway are you set on your deck? I have a few thoughts (it won't take me that long to write them, I realize that the comment I wrote last time was too long anyway) on things like spell/trap cards, limiting the number of Fabled monsters to use (or not) and more ideas for the extra deck

Kinda sorta set-ish. I'm removing one or two of the Pot of Avarices and Sunny Pixie. Possibly Fabled Topi, too, because I've never really been able to use its effect, it's too specific. Peggulus' effect is pretty hard to activate too, a lot of times I keep getting the "missed the timing!" prompt whenever I discard it to activate another effect, so I might reduce it to one or take it off, since I already have Chawa and Ceburrel and Kushano and they are amazingly versatile as Tuners, especially Kushano. Not sure what to put in it, tho', in its place.

Yeah, I wouldn't use Topi or Peggulus. My style personally it so pick the cards that are the best/work the best of the archetype and narrow it down to those, then put in 2 or 3 of them.

Here are the spell/trap cards that I liked for the deck:

Phoenix Wing Wind Blast
Tribute to the Doomed
Lightning Vortex
Monster Reborn
Mystical Space Typhoon
Compulsory Evacuation Device
Mirror Force
Dimensional Prison
Bottomless Trap Hole
Monster Reincarnation
Hand Destruction
Card Destruction

Of course most of those are just really splashable. XD

If you want to get technical, prior to 2008 the WC games were just the stand-alone tounament mode with no story. The story based games came out separately, Nightmare Troubadour for DM related plot nonsense and Spirit Caller for GX with WC '07 capable of having card trades with Spirit Caller.

...I have way too many of these games and am awful at all of them. XD
