Water

My beleaguered neighbor across the street, who last year paid close to a million and a half dollars for his home, is suffering from continuing flooding issues. I don't know the full extent of his issues, but it's bad & seems to be unresolvable without extensive remediation. The guy has 2 toddlers & tells me that mold is growing in his basement... The state did not ban paper bags, the grocery stores almost all switched to the cheaper plastic bags, which I have always despised. (my first job was bagging groceries, so I am well versed in packing a good paper bag. Throw all that out with plastic.)
At the same time, they kept some paper bags, but they were smaller and crappier, so you had to double bag them or put a paper bag inside a plastic bag, giving you handles and preventing all your shit from instantly cutting through the cheap ass plastic bags, and oh, you might get 4 things in each bag instead of 2 or 3.
Good riddance to plastic bags. I switched over to reusable bags about 7 years ago and I love them. You can pack them full, they have handles, and they fold up nicely. They also last for years. And yeah, you easily get used to taking them with you.. just like you take your phone with you, or your wallet, or your glasses.. whatever you need just learn.

Thats a shame for your neighbor. I wonder if they poured a new foundation when they built the house or just used the old one? Our house has mold issues.. and lead... but hey, what doesn't kill us...

For all practical purposes, it was a ban. The switchover was close to 100%. I like plastic. It's practical for many things whereas paper is problematic...even Trader Joe's bags rip easily & they are better than average.

I do reusables, especially if I'm walking down to TJs. There's a place for all of these bags...not a big fan of the government banning something like grocery bags & getting that far into our personal choices.

It's a water-lot over there. The other owner had the same issues. Same foundation. It seems worse; if anything.
