Moon of Ups and Downs

Jan 22, 2008 21:15

Full Moon tonight.

I'm told so, anyway. And I know so, in my blood, and in the height of the tide. But my eyes must take it on faith; the overcast is nearly impenetrable, a vague lightness in one corner the only evidence of moonrise.

The Nor'Easter of the last couple of days is moderating, but as it clocks around to the East our end of the harbor has built to a nice 2-foot chop. This makes for a very wet ride to dinner even with the dinghy trimmed so as to ride with her bow in the air. The blessing of this weather, though, is the easy trip home with the wind at our backs and the waves rolling with us. Even a little bit of surfing on the wave tops as we motored through the darkened harbor.

Today I think we solved the last of the fuel-system problems. This may mean we're just a few days from departure, but other issues have surfaced. For example, the last parts for the dinghy davits arrived today and were installed. But the first attempt to lift the dinghy immediately caused one of the loop-ends to slip out. The dinghy didn't even get out of the water when it fell back, no longer held. Ah, well; tomorrow we'll investigate more positive ways to make a loop in a cable-end.

There's Grove magic to do tonight, and I find myself wishing for a little more quiet solitude in which to do it. But there's a new radio aboard and the generator is running, so probably this is a lot to ask.

And yet, and yet ... life is full and tender, rich and strange.

Love and light and lots of laughter to each of you.
