I would have died on the bus the other day if a bus-friend hadn't loaned me a book, because I'd finished mine, which was 'Pet Sematary'. Which is, I think, the only book I've ever read that I've actually found creepy (or, at least, creepy in a creepy way; I've been frightened off by terrible writing before, though!).
She loaned me 'Home from the Vinyl Cafe'. And then yesterday, she loaned me 'Vinyl Cafe Unplugged'. There are others in the series--all short stories about this eminently lovable family who constantly experience weird coincidences and hilarious events and get through with some aplomb. These stories are laugh-out-loud funny--like, every two minutes or so. Even in public. I missed my bus stop on the way home on Wednesday because I was so engrossed. That was the only time I've ever missed my stop.
This morning, I came to a story called 'Dorothy', and it was about an uppity cousin from England who came to visit the family because she was attending a Due South fan convention. Due South is a TV show which ran from 1994 - 1996, about a Canadian mountie who worked with the Chicago police department, as I recall. It was hilarious. I was also nine to eleven years of age. Just recently, I learned that there is quite a Due South fandom, and it is still active. I was giggling like a crazy person on the bus for about five miles. My fellow bus passengers have learned to ignore me.
Fandom is utterly ridiculous. And I will have to go without for eleven days. I am insane for doing this voluntarily. But I will be back with pretty pictures! And maybe a tan. Because the forecast is for sun and highs of 28C!
