Psych - The show that is ridiculous and entertaining and ships practically everything

Amongst all the hectic-ness of the past few weeks, I have picked up watching Psych again. This is a supremely silly show, which is just the sort of thing I need this time of year when everything else is rather stressful.

I've been watching the first season, and since the only other season I have seen was the sixth season, and so my first thought, was my goodness, they're so young! because I am, apparently, a little old lady.

Some other observations I've made:

• ​Lassiter is my favorite character so far. He's awkward in that way that is entertaining without being embarrassing, unlike Woody, who is awkward to the point of being a bit creepy.

• The woman who plays O'Hara did a great job of being an enthusiastic and very green cop in the first couple of episodes. It was obvious that O'Hara was very smart but lacked experience in the field.
• The actors have way too much fun making this show.
• Netflix does not include the psych-outs at the ends of episodes. This is sad.
• The writers can't decide who to ship so they ship everyone. From the first season alone I could easily pull numerous scenes (sometimes from the same episodes) that would support Shawn/Gus, Shawn/Lassiter, Shawn/O'Hara, and O'Hara/Lassiter. You could also probably make a case for Lassiter/Vick if you really wanted, although that ship subtext does not flow in abundance in the same way as the other four do.

I really think Shawn would start making out with Lassiter if he thought he could get away with it. He's already (spoilers for season 1!) sat in Lassiter's lap, given him dating advice, and wrote him a love note, and these are but a few of the things he has done. It's easy to interpret Shawn's bugging of Lassiter as akin to a school-kid pulling a girl's pigtails because he likes her. Though the subtext is strong there, I don't really want to ship it, because I'd feel bad inflicting Shawn on Lassiter any more than already happens in the show. I actually feel bad shipping Shawn with anyone because Shawn is so lacking in maturity, and is so self-centered.

I am definitely developing a soft spot for O'Hara/Lassiter. I didn't ship it in the beginning of season one, but now that I'm getting to the end of it I'm starting to ship it, and I totally friendship ship them as well. This has led me to the fanfic world and I am happily working my way through all the O'Hara/Lassiter fic I can get my hands on, save the explicit stuff. Sadly, there is not as much O'Hara/Lassiter fic as some of my other ships. I fear this will mean that I may start writing fic for this show, though I have no time for new fandoms in the fic-writing department, so hopefully the plot bunnies will stay away.
