Why "Twilight" annoys me

Not one person understands why I dislike the series. Even my friends who majored in English lit. So here is where I'll explain my pure distaste for that book:

1. The characters are incredibly one dimensional. There is no depth to them. Sure you can tell apart the various characters but oh ... they don't really have anything that is interesting about them. And it's same old, same old. Nothing new or interesting. No real character development (unless you can count finding out).

2. How utterly random the story is. There is no build-up to anything. So Edward hates Bella and oh let's have him pop up suddenly to save her. Oh wait now they are suddenly dating and in love after one date. After two they meet the vamp family. Oh and let's throw in a little background. Oh and it's almost the end of the book so now it's time to add a bad vampire. But the evil vampire was suddenly killed really easily. No details to be had.

3. Even the scenery was one-dimensional. All I could picture was cardboard cutouts like you may see on a stage.

4. The heroine was no heroine at all. No one to aspire to. She constantly was tripping over her own feet and could not do anything herself. The abusive relationship with Edward? Not cool. Always depends on a male figure for everything.

5. She complains that she is so plain and yet so many guys ask her out. How ridiculous is that?

6. I am tired of Edward being compared to Heathcliff and Mr Darcy. There is absolutely no comparison. Heathcliff is so the perfect brooding type lover that is utterly tragic. Mr Darcy a completely different character. Edward? Sparkling-vegetarian vampire. Need I say more?

7. If you are going for the star-crossed lovers tragic thing having a sociopathic-vegetarian-sparkling-masochinistic vampire and an unintelligent girl will not do.

8. Shut up Bella, I am tired of your constant whining.

9. His eyes are topaz. Now they're black. Oh look, they're topaz again.

10. The ability to kill the climax so utterly quickly. Nothing says climax like one page or so of the heroine stumbling around and the evil hunter circling her.

Want good vampire stories? Read Anne Rice :)
