Matisyahu / Enanitos Verdes/ Lodi Court

Saw Matisyahu in Montclair a few weeks back, the show was awesome and his new album is going to kick ass. He was very fun to see too, hopping all over the place and the music was a lot more atmospheric and interesting live than it is on the albums and the songs were a lot longer as well.

The biggest deal for me this month was seeing Los Enanitos Verdes in New York. I've been a fan of theirs for so long and as cliche as it sounds they've helped me through some rough times, they've been steadily releasing albums since the first one in '84 so there's always been material from them for their fans to enjoy. I got to the Fillmore at Irving Plaza rather early and got my ticket from will call and got to stand on a much shorter line. Due to this I was able to get up against the rail and be dead center for the show. I waited close to two hours and then they took the stage. The first thing I noticed was how old these guys have gotten but Marciano (vocals/bass) voice sounds just like it did on their first recordings. I got pretty overwhelmed when they came out. It's just a feeling so hard to describe, it's always nice to see a musician you like, but I think it's very different to see a band you love, that you grew up listening to and have memories of since you were a little kid. Felipe, their guitarist was simply amazing, at the end of the show he handed me a pick (he threw some out of the crowd but I was so close that he literally put it in my hand, it's got his name on it) I got some video of them but the audio is pretty bad (I'm going to try and clean it up to see if maybe I can put it on youtube)

the setlist as best as I can remember it and not in order:
- Cordillera
- Muralla Verde
- Amores Lejanos
- Mariposas
- Sola
- Luz de Dia
- No Me Veraz // Metro Balderas (El Tri cover)
- Mil Horas (Andres Calamaro cover)
- Tu Carcel (one of my favorites by them)
- Lamento Boliviano
- A Las Tres
- Guitarras Blancas
First Encore:
-Tequila
-Another cover I didn't recognize
Second Encore:
- Eterna Soledad, a great way to end the show.

Lastly I was in court today, for failure to mow my lawn (I swear it, I didn't cut my grass so I had to go to court over it) what killed me was that the two people that went before me had paid lower fines than I did and had certainly worse crimes. For instance, some kid was charged with racing on a highway and had two other tickets besides that and they had him pay $130, then another guy in his 40s was charged with possession of marijuana and only had to pay $105! then I'm up next and they had me pay $150! I didn't think to speak up on it because the prosecutor said it could be a fine up to $800 due to the weeds in my lawn so I figured I'd keep my mouth shut, but really? How fair does that seem?
