"You have not," Loki corrects as he lifts another chunk off him. "Hela wouldn't let you in, anyway. She's always thought Fenrir needed to find someone to settle down with."
"But I-"
And then everything in Clint's world flips as Fenrir's form shimmers and shifts, shrinking down into the shape of a man that Clint is intimately acquainted with.
"Did you really think I would have left him to die?" Phil snaps, the wolf still present in the curl of his lips over his teeth, the snarl in his voice. "I don't care if Odin himself knows where we are now. And don't even try to tell me you wouldn't do the same for Natasha, Jormungandr. Don't you dare."
"Are you positive I'm not dead?" Clint asks Loki plaintively. The god smiles in a way that is clearly supposed to be comforting but just freaks Clint out. He lifts the largest and last piece of concrete off and Clint has to choke off a scream, then, a strangled sob torn from his throat as the compression lifts and the pain floods back, along with blood. It soaks quickly through his vest but then Phil is at his side, eyes wide and worried as he clasps Clint's hand. He looks up at Loki, pleading.
"Father-"
"Of course," Loki murmurs gently. He reaches down and lays his hand on Clint's chest, warmth spreading outward from his palm. Clint exhales a shaky, grateful breath as the pain eases, a cut in his arm healing in front of his eyes. He lolls his head to the side to squint at his lover.
"Gotta lot to 'splain," he informs him blearily. Now that the adrenalin rush and the pain have faded he lets the exhaustion hit, his body loose and pliant and just grateful to not be hurting anymore. Phil smiles at him but it's a little strained, his mouth still taut with worry.
"After you're safe," he agrees gently, rubbing his thumb across Clint's cheek. Clint nods, turning his face into the touch as sleepy warmth creeps up on him, his eyes slipping closed. He's distantly aware of Loki's hand pulling back and strong arms gathering him up as he's lifted from the debris, his head resting on a familiar shoulder.
"Hey, Phil?" he mumbles.
"Yes?"
"You're a pretty awesome wolf."
Phil's chuckles, the sound a comforting rumble against Clint's ear.
"Thanks, Clint."
And just before Clint finally succumbs to the darkness, he hears Loki's soft, distant laugh.
"Alright, Fenrir. You may keep this one."
